Stadium Lusail
The FIFA World Cup 2022 is scheduled to take place in Qatar. Some of the planned stadia are already under construction and are partly to be dismantled. Despite this, the use after the World Championship is not known for most projects. The stadium in Lusail, which is planned for the final, is to be created according to the concept of a planning team, the British architecture firm of Norman Foster. In a design and built competition, organized for different construction companies and architectural offices, solutions were supposed to me searched, which included a cost reduction, as well as a meaningful after-use as the task.
The concept should only preserve the facade design in the essential principles, as well as the required spectator capacity of approximately 90,000 seats. In compliance with the FIFA regulations for a final stadium, however, more economical solutions could be developed.
Vision4venue was commissioned by a Qatarian /Turkish consortium to do the conceptual planning as the competition goal. Due to the change in rank geometry and line optimization, the base area of the round stadium construction could be reduced by 20%. As a result, the ring rope roof could alternatively be altered and the facade surface adjusted. The floor plans are adapted to a possible after-usage for hotel, offices, day-care centers and restaurants.
With this concept, the 2nd place was reached in the negotiation process.
